With the UFC pumping out events, it seems new title contenders appear week to week. First I will describe who is in the running and why. After that, I will describe who I believe deserves the next shot, why, and what's next for the others.
With Stipe out for a while due to eye problems, there has been a build-up of possible contenders. The four main fighters I see deserving a shot are DC, Ngannou, Rozenstruik, and Curtis Blaydes. Each of these fighters have made a legitimate case on why they deserve the next shot. DC is coming off a loss and only had one title defense but beat the champ and one can say was beating Stipe in the rematch. If DC can come up with a defense to Stipe's body shot Stipe will need to once again develop a new plan. Curtis Blaydes has been on a complete tear beating names from the likes of Aleksei Oleinik, Mark Hunt, Alistair Overeem, and Junior Dos Santos. The person that throws a wrench in those plans is Francis Ngannou. With two wins over Blaydes and being on a 3 fight winning streak as well, Ngannou has put himself in a good position to get the rematch for the belt. Lastly Rozenstruik, Rozenstruik is 10-0 and has some notable wins. He has a fight booked vs Ngannou so a win will likely be propelled into the next title shot.
Now for who I believe deserves it. DC should get the rematch vs Stipe first. Daniel let Stipe get a rematch without fighting and I believe DC deserves the same. I also feel Stipe will have a cloud of doubt on whether he is better than DC. Due to the loss to DC and how the second fight was going before he got the finish, he should want to make the series 2-1 so there's no if's and's or but's. Winner of Ngannou vs Rozenstruik should get the following shot and loser should fight Blaydes where the winner of that fights for the belt after. Blaydes is getting the bad end of this plan but it's hard to make a case that someone who lost to Ngannou deserves a shot over him or someone that beats him.
Those are my thought so if you think otherwise go ahead and leave a comment. Next, we will look at Jon Jones and who deserves the next crack at the "GOAT".
